When I painted this picture, I felt as if the two rabbits were communicating with each other. Whether they are meeting, discussing, or simply observing remains open. It is precisely this openness that I like. The many layers, traces of color, and drips ensure that the scene is not static. I did not want to create anything smooth or perfect, but something that felt alive. For me, therefore, it is not primarily about the animals themselves, but about the tension and closeness that arises between them.
Photos can only hint at the texture, depth, and color brilliance – in reality, this painting is even more striking.
